The headache-team is partner and leads the Operational Unit (OU) for clinical implementation in NorHead, which unites the leading experts on headache disorders in Norway, across disciplines. Through NorHead we have collaborators at all University Hospitals and in all health regions in Norway as well as international collaborators. NorHead is funded by the Research Council of Norway and regional hospitals in Norway.
Cross-regional project which aims to establish uniform diagnostics, especially with regard to biomarkers, MRI and cognitive testing at all university centers in Norway. Also responsible for the DDI-Biobank, consisting of sample material from > 1000 unique subjects, with repeat samples from inclusion at baseline, and follow up visits every second year. The DDI biobank is located at AHUS.
Our research data includes standardized CRFs from all patients and visits corresponding to the DDI biobank samples, implemented in a customized database (XNAT). XNAT was evaluated by the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) for integration of clinical, proteomic, imaging and genetic data, and we currently assemble data from all national (DDI) and international collaborators. The XNAT database forms the main data hub, designed to be ontologically and multimodally searchable, expandable and secure. All storage and retrieval of sensitive data is via the TSD (in Norwegian, Service for Sensitive Data, UIO) service.
Service for secure data by UiO. Provides a platform for researchers at UiO and other public research institutions to collect, store and analyse sensitive data
Norwegian national research infrastructure body. Its primary objective is to strengthen and simplify collaboration in all categories of clinical research in Norway.
Ahus provides an in-house research outpatient clinic, which is utilized in our clinical trials to facilitate quick and easy inclusion and follow-up of our patients.
Work on epidemiology is performed in collaboration with national, administrative/compulsory registries like including Norwegian Patient registry, Cause of Death Registry, Norwegian prescription database.
We have collected a comprehensive biobank of cells and spinal fluid from patients with demyelinating diseases. The biobank is currently located at, and is organized in collaboration with Andreas Lossius, ass. prof. at University of Oslo.
Methods extending beyond the capabilities of the EpiGen labs have been outsourced to regional core facilities of localized in Oslo University hospital and University of Oslo.
Investigation of human cells mainly been done in the EpiGen facilities at Ahus, allowing patient material to be collected in close proximity to in- and outpatient clinics, and immediately be processed, prepared and analysed. EpiGen offers cell-laboratories, proteomics, flow cytometers and facilities for advanced molecular biology.
